We know all about confidentiality and the signing of contracts and the fear of jinxing a great account win that will preclude you from reaching out to us earlier in the week.
But that does not mean that we change our deadlines. I make it a habit of telling people (if they want to put themselves in the best possible situation to get in the next edition of the magazine) to pitch us on Monday.
Definitely Tuesday, and no later than Wednesday. I usually have a very good idea of what’s going to run where (on the back pages and page 2) on Tuesday evening. Unless you come sweeping in with a Fortune 500 win on Thursday or a game-changing M&A - I will likely tell you to hold your news for a week. It’s obviously up to you whether you take that advice.
If you do release your news on Friday, that means it will be more than a week until we put it in the magazine; that will likely affect placement.
The more you know…
Here is our publishing schedule:
Tuesday evening - sending one back page
Wednesday AM - sending the other back page (if there)
Wednesday PM - sending page 3 (which includes launchpad)
Thursday AM - sending page 2
Thursday PM - sending cover page
Also worth noting: If you pitch me great news on Monday, I’m not going to put on a back page just to fill a slot.
EIC Julia Hood discussed our recent Book of Lists feature on CNBC, which is being picked on numerous outlets.
