New ways to pitch?

Posted July 25, 2007 * Comments(2)

Has new media found its way to the new business pitch yet? Readers want to know. I’m not talking about new media strategies, but rather in the actual presentation to prospects, or in the methodologies for gaining intelligence on a prospect’s business challenges.

Please post comments if you are seeing more of this happening, either in presentations your are seeing from agencies, or in what your agency is preparing for clients. No need to mention specific company names.

On a related note, our upcoming Career Guide includes a roundtable discussion with top HR people, and one corporate executive, on the challenges of recruiting mid-level staff. Social media is becoming a significant recruiting tool for companies. Not a big surprise, but in the ongoing battle for top talent, it will be interesting to see how differentiating a social media strategy can be.

Companies are going green as never before, in both operations and products. As a result, business and consumer media are focusing on sustainability, from stories about lifestyle choices all the way to a corporation’s strategy. This webcast will look into how coverage from traditional journalists and Web 2.0 advocates is helping to create a growing eco-consciousness.

Panelists will explain how coverage of sustainability and green products and companies has evolved, as well as what’s really making news in this area. Topics covered will include understanding real innovation in an area of constant change, how consumer information needs are changing, and the hottest stories in green today.

Featured speakers include:
Wendy Bounds, small-business editor,
Seth Bauer, editorial director, National Geographic’s The Green Guide
Michael Ekstract, founder and vice president, Verdant Magazine
Todd Woody, and assistant managing editor, Business 2.0

Moderator:
Keith O’Brien, executive editor, PRWeek

Innovators anyone…anyone…anyone????

Posted July 19, 2007 * Comments(2)

A little over a week ago our features editor, Erica Iacono, posted on this site about an upcoming feature on Agency Innovators. We are looking for those individuals who are instrumental in changing the way agencies operate, think, and service clients. Erica invited readers to post comments with suggestions, and to email them to .

So…where are they??? OK, we’ve had a few suggestions, but not nearly as many as we should. This is an opportunity to tell us who is truly changing the landscape out there - so come on, let us know!

Correction for Global Special

Posted July 9, 2007 * Comments(0)

In the July 2 Global Special, we incorrectly reported Edelman’s US revenue for 2006 as its global revenue for that year. The correct global revenue for ‘06 was approximately $328 million. We regret the error.

Attention professors

Posted July 6, 2007 * Comments(0)

For the past six years, the PRWeek Student of the Year competition has offered undergraduate students a remarkable opportunity to compete for a paid internship and substantial cash prize, all on the strength of their strategic communications ideas and presentation.

Sponsored by Hill & Knowlton, the competition is part of the annual PRWeek Awards. Each year, five students are selected from the entries and brought to New York to pitch their ideas to a panel of PR leaders. One college student will be awarded $5,000 and a paid internship at Hill & Knowlton. One runner-up may also win a $1,000 prize and a paid internship at Hill & Knowlton.

More info, after the jump.
